The Safe Space Connection: May Edition

Happy May, Safe Space family! Can you believe we’re already five months into 2026? The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and here at Safe Social Space Therapeutic Services, we are buzzing with an incredible amount of energy and excitement!

May is a month of transition and blooming, and we have so much to share with you, from massive personal milestones in our community to the exciting news of our physical expansion. Grab a cup of coffee (or your favorite iced tea!), get comfortable, and let’s dive into everything happening in our vibrant world!

EJ’s Spotlight: A Journey of Independence!

Let’s start things off with a massive, high-energy round of applause for EJ! We are absolutely beaming with pride to announce that EJ has officially earned his Associate’s Degree in Business Management!

This moment deserves a real spotlight because EJ’s story is powerful, inspiring, and deeply rooted in what we believe at Safe Social Space Therapeutic Services. Earning an associate degree takes commitment, discipline, resilience, and heart — and EJ showed all of that every step of the way!

This isn’t just about a diploma, even though that is a huge achievement worth celebrating! This is about growth. It’s about independence. It’s about setting a goal for yourself and following through with determination. EJ has shown what it looks like to keep pushing forward and build a future with confidence.

His journey perfectly mirrors our mission here at Safe Social Space. We believe that every individual deserves the chance to lead a self-determined life, and EJ is out there living it! Whether it was balancing responsibilities, staying focused on school, or continuing to grow personally along the way, EJ has proven that with the right mindset and a supportive community, amazing things happen.

EJ, your story reminds all of us that success looks different for everyone — and every milestone matters! Your hard work inspires us to keep reaching, keep growing, and keep believing in what’s possible. You are a true leader in our community, and we are so excited to celebrate this moment with you. Congratulations, EJ — you did that!

Autism Acceptance Month: Acceptance is a Verb!

As we move out of April, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on everything we shared during Autism Acceptance Month. For us, this wasn't just a thirty-day event, it’s a lifestyle and a core value. We’ve been talking a lot about moving from "Awareness" to "Acceptance," but we like to take it a step further: Acceptance is a Verb!

It’s one thing to be "aware" that neurodiversity exists; it’s another thing entirely to take action to create a world where neurodivergent individuals are truly welcomed, included, and celebrated for exactly who they are. Acceptance means making room at the table. It means listening. It means adapting our environments to meet people where they are, rather than asking them to change who they are to fit in.

One of our most important pillars is "Support Beyond Labels." We know how exhausting the diagnostic process can be. The paperwork, the waiting lists, the clinical jargon, it can feel like a mountain to climb before you even get a single hour of help.

Here is the Safe Social Space difference: You do NOT need a formal diagnosis to start receiving support with us.

If you or your loved one are looking for social connection, behavioral support, or a community that just gets it, we are here for you right now. Labels can be helpful for some, but they should never be a barrier to entry for care. Whether you’re looking into Adult Services or seeking help for your child, our doors, and our hearts, are open.

Mental Health Awareness Month: More Good Days, Together

May is officially Mental Health Awareness Month, and our theme this year is "More Good Days, Together."

Often, conversations around mental health can feel heavy or clinical. While those serious conversations are necessary, we also want to celebrate the "small wins." For us, mental health is deeply integrated into our daily social connections. It’s about that feeling of belonging when you walk into a room and people know your name. It’s about the confidence boost you get when you master a new skill in a workshop.

When we say "More Good Days, Together," we are focusing on:

  • Community Connection: Loneliness is a major hurdle for mental wellness. Our Group Therapy for Social Skills creates a space where you are seen and heard.
  • Small Wins: Maybe it’s making eye contact, starting a conversation, or just showing up when you felt like staying home. We celebrate it all!
  • Integrated Support: Mental health isn't separate from your social life or your career goals. It’s all connected!

This month, we challenge you to look for the "good days" and share them with us. Let’s lean on each other and build a community where everyone feels empowered to be their authentic self.

BIG NEWS: We Are Expanding to Fort Washington!

We have been bursting at the seams to tell you this, Safe Social Space is officially opening a second location!

We are so incredibly grateful for the growth of our community, which has allowed us to expand our reach to 500 Office Center Drive, Fort Washington PA.

This new location means more space for workshops, more opportunities for social gatherings, and more capacity to serve families in the Fort Washington area. We wanted to create a space that feels like a "home away from home", a professional yet cozy environment where you can feel safe to explore, learn, and grow.

Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or you’re just discovering what we do, this expansion is a testament to the power of our collective community. We are growing because you are growing! Keep an eye on our About Us page for photos of the new space and details on the grand opening events coming soon!

Let’s Make May Amazing!

This month is all about celebrating where we’ve been and looking forward to where we’re going. From EJ’s incredible graduation to our new Fort Washington home, the momentum at Safe Social Space is unstoppable.

We invite you to be a part of it! If you’ve been thinking about joining a group, starting a workshop, or just want to learn more about how we can support you, please reach out to us. We offer everything from Child Services to specialized Parent Services because we know that support is a family affair.

Thank you for being part of our "Safe Space." Your presence, your stories, and your growth are what make this community so special. Let’s make this May a month to remember: full of more good days, together!

With excitement and gratitude,

Latia Sheppard-Wilson
